Imperial Japanese Aircraft World War II Collection Part 2

KYUSHU J7W1 SHINDEN

SCALE 1:48 HASEGAWA KIT

Built Out of Box

A prime example of Japanese aircraft design ingenuity after the development of the Zero was the canard-type Kyushu J7W1 Shinden fighter. Having the appearance of a futuristic fighter for the World War II time-period, it was the only tail-first design of several throughout the world that was regarded as a production aircraft.

The Shinden was an all metal airplane with a 2000 hp Mitsubishi Ha 43-42 eighteen cylinder aircooled radial engine mounted in the rear, driving a 6-blade propeller. The front-mounted horizontal surface acted as an elevator for flight control, and vertical fins were attached at mid-span. Amall auxiliary wheels were added the base of each fin to prevent tail damage upon landing. A tricycle landing gear folded into the wings and nose section.

On 3 August, 1945, the J7W1 Shinden took to the air for the first time after many delays in acquiring necessary part and solvin some of the engine ground-cooling problems. The second and the last of two short flights was completed just as the war came to an end. Total flying time for the Shinden was approximately 45 minutes.

KAWASAKI Ki-61-I HIEN ( TONY) SCALE1:48 HASEGAWAKIT Built Out of Box

The Japanese Army Ki-61-I Hien, code named "Tony" by the allied force, was the only mass produced Japanese fighter to use a liquid engine during the conflict. Great efforts were made during its design to keep it light, and this produced a well balanced fighter interceptor, with good high altitude performance and maneuverability. The Tony served in Philippines and New Guinea campaigns and in the air defense of mainland Japan.Followin the loss off thr Philippines, and the initial raids on Japan by China based B-29's, large nimbers of the Ki-61-I were assigned to thr defense of mainland Japan. The most famous squadron using the Hien was the 244th Sentai, commanded by Japan's youngest squadron leader, Mayor T Kobayashi. This squadron accounted for 160 B29's downed during the war and flew the Ki-62-I until the end of the conflict.

I type Hei is a type that makes the main wing arms of type 20mm machine gun. MG151?20 of Germany was installed because at that time, there was no 20mm machine gun that was able to be used for the actual combat in Japan. As for the Hei type, it put together and the collection machine and the newly built machine form the difference type were produced 388 planes.
